How many years should I pick to register my domain name?

The golden rule of thumb for picking the number of years to register your domain name is as many years as your budget permits. Murphy's Law of when "if anything can go wrong, it will" should be your motivating factor when selecting the years you register your name.

When you begin the easy steps to registering your domain name on our site, you will find the Length of Registration defaulted to 2 years.  But, you may click the arrow to select anywhere from 1 year to 10 years registration. While ten years is the maximum allowed for .com, .net and .org name registration---the other extensions can vary in length of years.

Registering a name under speculation and not sure you will want it for the long haul?

In hunting for a specific domain name, you discovered more than one great domain.  While you have zeroed in on one, you have to admit the others are also too good to walk away from.  What to do?  The wise choice is to register those other versions for the basics of a year, which safeguards them for you until you are able to determine if you can make use of them.

If these are domains you are not fully committed to, yet they seem chock full of possibilities, this is the time when selecting a year for registration is the right choice.

Committed to the domain name, but on a tight budget?

You can always add more years, one at a time, or more, at any time after you have purchased your domains through our store at the basic 1 year.  This is easily accomplished, by logging into your account, and purchasing more years for your domains.

However, it is wise to start with at least 2 years, because this protects you from losing your domain should a catastrophe cause you to miss the renewal date (i.e. personal emergencies, hospitalization, etc).  Many people have lost their valuable domain names due to circumstances beyond their control that kept them from renewing their domains in time.

While you can opt to have your domains renew automatically through our system, this does not protect you should your credit card expire or be invalid for any reason at the time of your renewal.  Our system is setup to notify you at a credit card decline, but should you be unable to check your email during this period, you will lose your domain, and it will become available to the general public.

Your best avenue is to register
your domain for as many years as you can afford to, giving yourself a safety cushion against any situations that could prevent you a year from now from renewing your valued domain name.

It is important that you update any email changes you may experience prior to your domain name's expiration in order that you receive notices on your domain's expiration in time to renew or update any expired credit cards.

Our free control panel which comes with your domain name purchased through Register-Domain-Name-Store.com, allows you to directly update your contact information at any time, as many times as you need.
